Urban living room
Location: Rome
Area: 2800 Smq
Client: Asset Management Company
Project time: 2018 – 2019
For a building located in a peripheral yet strategically positioned area of Rome, we designed the façade restyling for its office use, as well as the redevelopment of the entire surrounding area, including car parks and shared outdoor spaces for employees and clients. One of our goals was to characterise the exterior by identifying smaller areas—urban “living rooms”—defined through the use of vegetation and natural materials such as wood and stone.
The project initially focused on the façade, which showed clear signs of deterioration caused by a number of factors: corrosion due to atmospheric agents, loss of colour performance, window frames with incorrect and non-compliant opening mechanisms, and seals with reduced mechanical properties. To contain costs while resolving these issues, our proposal included the application of a mirror-finish film, the replacement of damaged glass panes, the restoration of metal elements’ original colour, and the removal of efflorescence from any corroded parts.
The ground floor was conceived as a healthy, comfortable environment for employees and visitors. We designed distinct relaxation zones differentiated from the surrounding areas using wooden paving and soft-shaped seating, integrated new lighting to define the spaces, and selected warm materials capable of bringing calm and comfort to the environment.
Of significant importance was the redevelopment of the green areas, centred on the introduction of vegetative screens, flowerbeds and edge plantings. The open-air area will feature planters containing shrub vegetation with integrated wooden seating, designed to provide a pleasant space for relaxation and the well-being of the building’s occupants.
