Ideal space

Location: Rome
Area: 800 Smq
Cliente: Asset Management Company
Project time: 2018

A space can be defined as “ideal” when it successfully fulfils its functional purpose while also enhancing the well-being of the people who inhabit it. The open-plan offices we designed support both individual work and interaction and collaboration among employees. Great attention was also paid to natural lighting, the arrangement of workstations and the organisation of service areas.

For a building located in Rome, in the Tiburtina district, the client requested the design of an entire floor to be used as offices for various companies or freelance professionals. The main entrance, after an initial common area and the lift lobby, is marked on the right-hand side by a small waiting area and the reception desk, whose role is to welcome clients visiting the individual companies and to manage shared functions. The environment, both informal and elegant, consists of a main desk made of grey wooden panels and a wall composed of square modular white panels of varying thicknesses and sizes, creating movement and a play of shadows on the surface. The lighting in the space is arranged in different ways: pendant lights above the desk, recessed lighting in the waiting area ceiling, and concealed LED strips both within the desk and along the panelled wall. Immediately beyond the reception area is the shared meeting room, bookable by the companies and professionals on the floor.

The room features a central table seating 10–12 people, low cabinets for storing materials needed during meetings, and pendant lighting made of horizontal aluminium parallelepipeds with LED light. For all users of the floor, we designed a small and welcoming break area for employees and clients alike. The offices are divided into two types: small offices and open-plan spaces. The smaller offices were designed for freelance professionals with limited space requirements, providing all that is needed to carry out their work. The open-plan space, on the other hand, was created to host larger companies requiring a dedicated area for a greater number of employees and for receiving clients. The structure is simple and functional: along the entire north-facing wall runs a large ribbon window that naturally illuminates the entire room for most of the day, where large desks and shelving units serve the needs of the employees.
